About Pilates

Pilates was established by German born Joseph Pilates in the 1920’s.

It is a system of exercises and controlled movements (which he called ‘contrology’) that assist to develop control and endurance in the human body.

Process

Similarly to Yoga, it puts emphasis on alignment, breathing.

Everyone from athletes, dancers, seniors and people undergoing physical rehabilitation can practice pilates.

Pilates often incorporates the use of equipment such as exercise balls and elastics.

Benefits

Pilates assists to improve flexibility, co-ordination and balance in the body, while strengthening the central core.
